Jewelry
beads are the smallest items for art. Coral beads have been used in jewelry
making since prehistoric times. Year after year, coral beads are always one of
the most popular items in jewelry making. The beautiful bright red coloring
cannot be beat, especially if you want to wear something to the pool or beach.

The
name coral is derived from a Greek word. Unlike other gemstone beads, coral is
not a mineral or rock. They are marine animals that exist as small sea
anemone-like polyps which typically live in colonies of many identical
individuals. Many types of coral, especially those found in tropical oceans,
are reef builders. These reef builders secrete calcium carbonate to form a
hard, protective skeleton.
Coral
beads are produced in various shapes and sizes today. The popular shapes
include flower, round, flat round, drop, oval, cube, chips, animal, human and etc.
Only living coral is naturally red. And because coral is protected by
environmental law, it is no longer harvested while living. This is why almost
all coral beads on the market today get their color from being dyed.

Coral
beads are very popular with people all around the world. But do you know they
have different meanings in different countries or nationalities? Coral is said
to calm and improve life, protect children, and help difficulties of the lungs
and digestion. It is also said to help restore harmony in the event of
emotional conflict, and to work against nutritional deficiency, depression and
lethargy. In Roma, the Romans used to hang red coral beads on the cradles and
round the neck of infants, to “preserve and fasten their teeth,” and save them
from “the falling sickness.” American Indians regarded coral as a symbol of
vitality. It is said to bring inner peace, intuition and imagination. And coral
is the gem of the 35th marriage anniversary in Western cultures.
